Hello PVSD Community,
Now is a great time to refresh some healthy digital habits, especially when it comes to password safety. Strong passwords help protect school accounts, personal information, and online learning tools used by staff, students, and families every day.
Why Password Hygiene Matters
Passwords are often the first line of defense against cyber threats. Reused, weak, or old passwords are one of the most common ways accounts are compromised.
Simple Tips for Better Password Security
Here are a few easy ways to start the year safer online:
Use unique passwords for school accounts and personal accounts
(Never reuse the same password across multiple sites.)
Make passwords long, not complicated
A short phrase with spaces, numbers, or symbols is stronger than a short complex word.
Avoid personal information
Don’t use names, birthdays, school names, or favorite teams.
Change passwords if they’re old or shared
Especially after a data breach or if someone else may know it.
Enable Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) when available
This adds an extra layer of protection beyond just a password.
Never share passwords
Not with friends, classmates, coworkers, or anyone claiming to be “IT.”
A Good Rule of Thumb
If your password would be easy for a friend (or a computer) to guess, it’s time for a new one.
Cybersecurity is a shared responsibility, and small steps make a big difference. Thank you for helping keep our school community safe—online and offline.
If you ever receive a suspicious email, message, or login request, please report it or reach out to the IT Department.
Wishing you a safe, secure, and successful Year!
