Ms. Cherie Romero, Principal

With over two decades of experience in education, Cherie Romero has dedicated the majority of her career to serving the Pojoaque Valley School District. Her journey began as a teacher at Pablo Roybal Elementary School, where she spent 14 impactful years shaping young minds and fostering a love of learning. Her leadership and commitment to student success led her to Pojoaque Valley High School, where she has served as Dean of Students and later, Assistant Principal. A proud graduate of New Mexico Highlands University, Ms. Romero earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in the field of education. She was awarded the prestigious Ben Lujan Leadership and Public Policy Fellowship, which supported her graduate studies in Educational Leadership. In recognition of her excellence in teaching, Ms. Romero was honored as the very first Pojoaque Valley Schools Educational Foundation Teacher of the Year in 2018. The following year, she was selected to serve as a State Ambassador for the New Mexico Public Education Department, furthering her advocacy for high-quality education across the state. A resident of Pojoaque Valley, Ms. Romero is deeply committed to her community. She is a passionate advocate for individuals with disabilities and is known for her dedication to fostering inclusive, supportive educational environments.
