Dr. Channell Segura is a dedicated and passionate public education leader with over 19 years of experience serving students, families, and educators across New Mexico. A proud graduate of Santa Fe Public Schools, Dr. Segura’s calling to teach began early in life, and that passion has guided her through every chapter of her career. She holds a bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degree from the University of New Mexico. She has served in a wide range of roles, including classroom teacher, principal, superintendent, and currently, Assistant Deputy Secretary of Education at the New Mexico Public Education Department. Dr. Segura is deeply committed to student success, rooted in her belief that strong literacy and numeracy skills, as well as family engagement, are foundational to thriving schools. That belief is personal as she vividly remembers learning to read in 1st grade with Mrs. Maria Romero. This experience opened the door to a lifelong love of learning and critical thinking. At home, Dr. Segura and her husband, Matthew, have prioritized being present for their two children, Nevada and Cole, by attending school events, supporting their homework routines, and fostering a home environment where learning and perseverance are celebrated. She credits that family presence as a powerful influence in their academic journeys. They are both following in their parents’ footsteps and attending the University of New Mexico. Go Lobos! Known for her innovative leadership and ability to build strong school communities, Dr. Segura brings a collaborative vision to Pojoaque Valley, one that celebrates the partnership between students, families, educators, and the broader community. Dr. Segura will begin her role as Superintendent effective July 14, 2025, and she looks forward to collaborating with staff, students, families, and the broader community to strengthen the district’s mission of excellence and equity.
