Pojoaque Valley School District’s Richenda Fox Receives 2025 Horizon Award from New Mexico School Nurses Association

Pojoaque, NM — The Pojoaque Valley School District is proud to announce that Richenda Fox, a first-year school nurse serving the students and families of the district, has been named the 2025 recipient of the Horizon Award by the New Mexico School Nurses Association (NMSNA).

The Horizon Award is presented annually to a new school nurse who demonstrates exceptional promise, professionalism, and a strong commitment to student health and wellness. Richenda Fox’s outstanding dedication during her first year in school nursing has already made a lasting impact within the Pojoaque Valley community.

“Richenda has brought an extraordinary level of care, compassion, and clinical expertise to her role,” said M. Christina Velasquez, Director of Student Services for Pojoaque Valley School District. “She has quickly become a trusted advocate for students, a resource for staff, and a vital part of our school community. This recognition is incredibly well deserved.”

In her first year, Fox led initiatives to improve health access and education across campuses, strengthened communication between school and home, and built strong relationships with local healthcare providers. Her efforts have not only supported student wellness but also contributed to a stronger and more responsive school health program district-wide.

The award was presented during the NMSNA Annual Conference held earlier this month, where Fox was recognized by her peers and state leaders in school health.

“I’m deeply honored to receive the Horizon Award,” said Fox. “It’s a privilege to care for and advocate for the students of Pojoaque Valley. I’m grateful to be part of a district that prioritizes student well-being and supports the vital role of school nurses.”

Pojoaque Valley School District congratulates Richenda Fox on this outstanding achievement and looks forward to her continued contributions to student health and success.
